I love eco-friendly crafts where I get to upcycle things that would normally go in the trash. This week, I transform old cereal boxes into glamorous picture frames. You can really use any boxes, like Girl Scout Cookie boxes, dog biscuit boxes, even detergent boxes. And this is a fun project for the kids, too!
Step 1: Cut the box so it lays flat, and then cut the end flaps.
Step 2: If the box is large, turn it horizontal and cut it in half so you can make two frames.
Step 3: Apply spray adhesive to the plain side of the box and adhere a piece of wrapping paper to it.
Step 4: Trim the excess paper, along with the edges of the cereal box that may have been cut evenly with the scissors.
Step 5: Cut a hole on one side where the photo will be inserted. It helps to draw a template first.
Step 6: Then add embellishments to the frame. I love using ribbon, buttons, charms, and any doohickies I find in my drawers and cabinets. Note that I don’t assemble the frame until after I add the embellishments. It’s easier to embellish when the frame is still flat.
Step 7: Apply hot glue to the flap and fold it over one side to assemble the frame. Slide a photo in the opening.
Watch the video above for more detailed directions on how to make this cool, eco-friendly frame.
Jonathan- such a very cool project. Cereal killer- haha. Miss you! Eileen
Thanks Eileen. It was also inspired by your easel frame die, which does this project in 2 seconds.
Who knew a CEREAL KILLER could be so crafty (ahaha!)
But seriously, very cool idea. I could also see this translating into a nifty project for the munchkins too.
PS: Where is post on that suit jacket?!
Thanks, Aunt Peaches. One day I’ll wear that suit on a webisode. I had it made. Fabric featured photos from my second book “Flowers that Wow.” It’s a lot of look.
Cereal Boxes??? Those look so GOOD!
Thanks! I go through a lot of cereal and cookie boxes!
Wonderful!!! They also look like pop up cards that turn into a picture frame – i love it!!! I’m eyeing my cereal box now ….
This will make the perfect gift for my friend!
